Frequently Answered Questions

Q: How can physical therapy help me?

A: A physical therapist can help you restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain and prevent or limit permanent physical disability after injury or in the presence of disease. We also help restore, maintain and promote overall fitness and health.

Q: Does physical therapy hurt?

A: There are some stretches or exercises that may cause discomfort, but we don’t believe in the saying, “No pain, no gain”. Our goal is to help you return to living your life without pain.

Q: Can I see a physical therapist without a prescription from my doctor?

A: YES. We can see you for physical therapy without a doctor’s prescription for at least an evaluation and in most cases, 30 days or 10 visits of treatment (whichever occurs first). This is called “Direct Access”. The research on Direct Access shows that people get better much faster and the total health care cost is approximately half of what it would be if someone went to their physician first for musculoskeletal pain or injury. Seeing us first saves you time and money.

Q: How do I make an appointment for physical therapy?

A: Call us at 607.535.7475 and Cicely or Lisa will ask you a few questions to get started. We will schedule a time for you to see a physical therapist that is convenient for you.

Q: What should I expect at my first appointment?

A: Your scheduled appointment time is set to allow you to fill out important paperwork that lets us know about your condition. Afterward, one of our Licensed Physical Therapists will bring you to an individual treatment room to insure your privacy and she will ask you additional questions about the issue that you would like help with. Your physical therapist will thoroughly evaluate your movement and strength along with other tests to understand the best path to resolve your condition. She will explain her findings to you and begin treatment (ex. teaching exercises or implementing hands-on techniques). Further physical therapy appointments will be scheduled at the end of the visit. The entire first visit lasts approximately one hour.

Q: Will my health insurance pay for physical therapy?

A: Most insurance plans cover physical therapy. We will call to verify your health insurance benefits, though we strongly recommend that you call a customer service representative at your health insurance company to discuss your benefits in advance of your appointment if you have questions.

Q: Who do I talk to if I have questions about my bill?

A: Call Cicely or Lisa at 607.535.7475 to discuss your bill, payment plans or ask any other questions you might have. We handle all of our own billing and have chosen not to outsource to another company. That means that you will be able to speak with someone who understands your situation.

Q: Why is it so different in your office than the other places I’ve been before?

A: That’s simple! We have an amazing team that loves what they do and truly cares about your experience and success. You are our focus. You’ll see the difference.
